Alzin introduces himself and his singing

Postby Alzin » Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:52 pm

Hello everyone,
so I finally made it here. I've been reading in this forum for quite a while, but never registered. But I think its a good thing to have people judge my singing who understand it, not like most people I know. ;) Actually, theres noone around here, so I don't have a teacher at all.
My language might seem strange to you sometimes, its because I'm from Germany. Maybe I can improve that, two? We'll see. So, if something sounds strange to you, better ask, it's probably my English abandonning me. Or my sometimes weird humor of which I should warn you. I don't mean any harm.
I've been learning western overtone-singing for 1,5 months, I think, and startet learning the Tuvan style last week. I also tried western style kargyraa (is there such a thing?) for 3 or 4 weeks. So those are my basics. I know about the crash course, I just hadn't had the time to listen to it, and I can't afford the online-lessons right now, so I have to do it without. I just tried to copy what I heard of other singers.
What brings me to the question, how I got into this khoomei-thing. It's the fault of Albert Kuvezin and Yat-Kha. From there, the rest of tuvan music wasn't so hard to find.
As soon as I figure out how to upload a file, I will show you an example of em singing.
For recordings, I use a Zoom H2 Handyrecorder and Audacity for editing (which actually is just normalising).
I hope we will all become friends.

Again a thank you.
This file was recorded two days ago after a whole day of singing. I think I'm constricting too much right now, but the overtones in the end are the best I ever produced. But since I don't have a teacher, I don't even know if I'm doing anything right. I just imitated other throatsingers. I really should listen to the crash course...
So, what do you think?

I know you're using a computer with a German operating system... you saved a recording with German time formatting, so you're either in Germany, Switzerland or Austria, with the slim chance of having a German computer outside of those countries, for example Sweden or Netherlands... watch out I don't Ninja you and find you where you're hiding, lol ;)

Do you mean the name of the file? That was me... I could name it any way I want. Or did you look up when the file was saved? Anyway, you're right, I'm in germany. I think I wrote I was from Germany, and I'm still there. ;)

That goes to show how attentively I read other's posts, eh?

You are actually quite good sounding for a couple of months in...

As for your humor... read my rant list... it's lengthy and strange, full of twists and weird thoughts and is essentially a record of my progress over the past year with more than detailed descriptions of my experiences attempting to learn various techniques and styles... I think you'd quite enjoy it.

Your English is fine, some grammar issues are always present, but the meaning comes across clearly. If you are ever stumped for how to express something, just ask, there are many Germans here to help, and many from other backgrounds and countries, such as Spanish, Portuguese and French speakers...

Have fun... oh and DO make an avatar picture for yourself, they help keeping the blogs übersichtlich (what's that word in English?)

Ever heard of LEO? ;) http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=d ... rsichtlich
For words, quite useful. I don't know if I could find grammar there, but if I'm understandable...
I will start reading your rant list soon. Haven't got that much time after all... and I think it's the longest thread in this forum. :coffee: ;)
I was thinking about an avatar (I often noticed that posts from users without an avatar seem to be read less... in all forums.). I just have to find a picture. ;)

Well I don't know if it's the longest thread, but it certainly is wordy
And it's not going anywhere... take your time

Same with throat singing; relax, don't tense up, practice calmly and do not push yourself when things aren't going well. Take a break, read my rant list, get back to it... you'll do great.

So, I'm back. And I got a new sample. This time, it's kargyraa. I'm just playing around with the different styles right now, trying to find out what feels and sounds good and is a good base to go on. So, am I on the right track? I've been practicing this for only a month now, so it's really a beginner-kargyraa. But it feels good and tickles just a little bit, it could be just my throat getting a little dry. So please some opinions. :)

Just recorded another one, I think, this might be Xorekteer, but I'm very unsure about that style. I upload the file two times, because I recorded two tries in one take, but one was closer to the mic. So one file is the normalised original, in the other one I normalised both parts separately so that they are as loud as the other one, and still are in one file. Please tell me what it is, and whether it is good or not.
